Fam Trips: Successful model for new travel offers and long-term cooperation

The Import Promotion Desk (IPD) Fam trips have proven to be a particularly effective tool for successfully connecting sustainable tourism companies from partner countries with the European travel market. They enable product managers to get to know the IPD partners' offerings directly on site – a decisive advantage in order to be able to thoroughly evaluate their suitability for existing or new itineraries.

The IPD focuses on presenting destinations in new, unusual ways and off the beaten track – making participation attractive even for experienced specialists and product managers.

An unforgettable Fam Trip full of adventure, enjoyment and hospitality

From 31 May to 8 June 2025, with the support of our partners Nepal Tourism Board and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) – an inspiring Fam Trip to Nepal took place, leaving a lasting impression: overwhelming hospitality, an impressive variety of tourist products and a series of experiences that made the country an incomparable sustainable travel destination.

Hightlights of our Nepal trip:

  • Mountain bike tour through spectacular landscapes to the picturesque village of Pandeli
  • Hiking trips to ancient pagodas and monasteries – deep insights into spiritual culture
  • Participation in the Himalayan Travel Mart – professionally organised with valuable contacts to local providers
  • Jungle safari in Chitwan National Park with rhino sightings and breakfast among elephants
  • Insights into everyday life in Nepal in the royal cities of Kirtipur and Bhaktapur – including a cooking class for local dishes
  • Enthusiasm for the cultural diversity of the Kathmandu Valley with its historical and religious treasures
  • Enjoy traditional Tharu snacks and dance with locals – experience hospitality first-hand
  • Adventure in the remote Bardia National Park – with a little luck, you may spot majestic tigers

The conclusion is clear: Nepal will become an integral part of the product portfolios of many participating tour operators. And the IPD is delighted that this trip has laid the foundation for new, sustainable tourism partnerships – with a country that has enchanted everyone.

Fam Trip of diversity between culture, nature and warmth

The “Pearl of the Indian Ocean” showed off its most beautiful side: The Import Promotion Desk (IPD) fam trip to Sri Lanka from June 20 to 29, 2025, was an impressive journey of discovery full of cultural diversity, culinary experiences, and unforgettable encounters – and offered participants a deep insight into the country's sustainable tourism potential.

The highlights of our trip through Sri Lanka:

  • Diverse impressions from the lively coastal town of Negombo to the charming colonial city of Galle
  • Adventurous overnight stays in remote jungle lodges in the Cultural Triangle
  • Early morning bike rides through the royal city of Anuradhapura
  • Wildlife watching in Minneriya National Park
  • Boat tours through the tropical greenery around Sigiriya – pure nature
  • Authentic encounters with local communities in Trincomalee and Batticaloa
  • Cooking traditional dishes together with your hosts
  • Tea tastings and hikes on the Pekoe Trail
  • Culinary experiences in Galle: street food, colonial architecture, and arrack tasting
  • Sustainable completion at the Nagenahiru Foundation – combining nature conservation and tourism

The conclusion: Sri Lanka has not only presented itself as a very welcoming host country, but also as a travel destination with a strong sustainable profile. Participants are returning home with fresh ideas, lots of inspiration and new contacts – and with the firm intention of incorporating Sri Lanka more strongly into their product portfolio in future.

Special thanks go to our sponsors and partners, without whom this trip would not have been possible:

  • Sri Lankan Airlines: The national carrier impressed us with its wonderful service and the hospitality of the cabin crew on our direct flight from Frankfurt to Colombo.
  • Walkers Tours: Our long-standing partner provided a bus, ensuring mobility and comfort on site.
  • Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau: Thank you for the good discussions and the goodie bag for our participants at the joint farewell dinner in Colombo.
